Meet Butch Wax and The Hollywoods
Mike Lutz

Mike began playing music in grade school and continued to study music into college as a music education major at SIU Edwardsville.  Originally a horn player (trombone and trumpet), he became interested in in drums and later switched to percussion as his major instrument.

Mike has performed with many local groups over the years including the Bossmen, Jorells, DNA, Alice and Omar, Rhythm Network, Sage, Second Nature, 40 West and others.  Mike has also been a lead singer in many of these bands.  In the mid-90’s Mike performed as lead vocalist for the Bob Kuban band for 4 years before having to leave to keep up with his day job as an IT director.

Drumming influences include Jerry Bolen, Bill Molenhof, Mike Johnston, Will Kennedy, Dave Weckl, Tommy Igoe, Steve Smith plus many others.  Some favorite artists are Chicago, Steely Dan, Yellow Jackets, Sting, Stevie Wonder, The Police, Lionel Richie, The Beatles, Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, and Maroon 5.

Mike primarily uses Yamaha drums in along with Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.
